BRISBANE (Boscutti Report) — Labor has criticised the Turnbull government’s framing of last week’s record jobs numbers, saying it was going to adopt the phrase ‘job security’ as part of its rhetoric leading into the upcoming election.
The Shadow Finance Minister Jim Chalmers said market research by the Labor communications team had uncovered a general sense of unease and uncertainty among the electorate.
‘We’re going to really ramp that up and frighten the bejesus out of everybody,’ he said.
Mr Chalmers said Labor linguists had determined that adding the word ‘security’ to any subject would up the fear factor, and save millions of dollars developing policy.
‘Job security, energy security, trade security, infrastructure security, state security, defence security,’ he said.
‘Even social security security.’
