Better solutions

Bruce Mau believes cynicism is a luxury - and one that we cannot afford.

We will always produce the world we imagine. If we imagine dystopia, that’s what we’ll create. And create by default, because cynicism is inherently lazy.

In the ecology of problems, protest has its place in order to name problems. Sometimes it's the most urgent and necessary step to take. But mere stone-throwing is not in itself a design solution, it's a call for solutions.

The most powerful critique of a bad solution is a better one. The task of design is to generate those better solutions, and that must begin with optimism -- the belief that a better solution is possible.
