Open with our weakness

In any presentation, don’t lead with our strength.

It’s too easy to come across as a slick smart ass with only self-interest at heart. Even if we’re right, no one likes a smart ass. Defences fly up fast. Arms are tightly crossed. Minds become closed. The boast is toast.

Instead show our vulnerability, show our humanity. Lead with our weak points before they notice them, lead with what we’re not good at.

It will make us more honest. It will make us more credible when we actually talk about our strong points.
