Profit is not a dirty word

Do you know where the word ‘profit’ comes from?

Before it related to money and financial gain? Before it related to the difference between the amount spent and the amount earned in buying, operating or producing something?

‘Profit’ comes from the Latin verb ‘profectus’ which means to achieve, advance, make progress.

The notion of profit in the specific sense of money-making is only a few hundred years old.

Before that profit meant so much more.

It still can.
