Sweet Jesus

It’s Christmas!

Time to celebrate the birth of a) savior, b) son of God, or c) troublemaking Jewish preacher and maverick religious leader who suffered epilepsy and bizarre sense of self-aggrandizement? Perhaps all three.

What we do know for a fact is that Jesus of Nazareth certainly wasn’t born on December 25. Historical records point to his birth sometime in September.

It wasn’t until 440 years after Christ’s death that the church officially proclaimed December 25 as the date of his birth. That date was already a public holiday enjoyed by the Romans to mark the winter solstice and the birth of the sun.

The church simply renamed and rebranded an existing holiday to make it their own.

Hope you find what you’re looking for in all those presents.
