Mediums and messages
Every medium fundamentally changes the way we think.
Printing with its ordered, sequential processing of information led to rationalism and the standardization of culture. Radio broke with linearity. Film even more so. Television most of all.
Every medium sends its own message. It’s not just a pipeline. It’s a filter, it’s a format of meaning and perception.
Twitter sends the message that life is simple and anyone’s half-baked opinions need to be thrown into the void.
Books imply that life is complicated and requires time, focus and thought to begin to understand.
The context is just as important as the content.
Perhaps more so.
