Orson Welles: Lost brother
Welles has an older brother Richard Jr. Ives Welles who he never discusses.
Richard is not very bright and considered a disappointment, an embarrassment. He is expelled from the progressive Todd School, where Welles will be sent years later. He spends many years in a mental institution with schizophrenia.
When the family hears a rumor that Dickie, a drifter, has been found dead on the banks of the Mississippi River, his father declares, ‘That’s good. At least the family is rid of him.’
