Why settle for less?
Yes, you’re a creative.
Why? Because you’re unhappy with the way something looks, sounds, tastes, feel. The way something - it can be anything really - presents itself to the world. And you want to change it into something you’re happy with. Something that makes you smile.
You might twiddle and tweak. You might burn it down and start again. You might be an art director, a creative director, a painter, a poet. You’re all that and more. The medium is the massage.
As your career life progresses, you’ll find your chosen means of expression becomes second nature. This is a blessing and a curse. You don’t doubt yourself as much but also you don’t push yourself as much.
New ways of thinking become tried and true ways of doing. If you’re not careful, they can all too easily become tired ways of living.
A beginner’s mind is best. If you get comfortable, move your thinking towards the unfamiliar. You’ll feel vulnerable, maybe a little lost.
This isn’t a bad thing. You have to keep yourself guessing. You have to keep moving forward. You have to keep bettering yourself.
We desperately need better creatives. In case you haven’t noticed, the world and everything in it have kind of gone to hell. Money and capital have somehow become all-consuming, the only thing that matters. It’s an old idea that no longer works.
We need new ideas to save the world, to save ourselves.
Don’t settle for less.
Settle for more.
